GORDIE IS BETTER THAN EVER AT THE PLANET HOLLYWOOD

June 4th, 2017 • by Sandy Zimmerman

I originally reviewed Gordie Brown 10 years ago when he began his Las Vegas career opening at the Golden Nugget. This star-studded event launched Gordie as “The impressionist” and everyone enjoyed his special fast-moving interpretations and wit.

Gordie Brown’s recent opening was filled with celebrities at the cocktail party before his all new show in the Cabaret Show Lounge, at Planet Hollywood! Comparing his early show and now Gordie was “Better Than Ever”!

Gordie fires his vocal impressions quickly, one after the other hardly stopping to take a breadth. You watch a lot of celebrity impressions and will continue laughing throughout the evening. If you want to see a happy show, a man who is at the top of his profession, you must see Gordie Brown. You will be laughing all evening and telling your friends the next day.

Gordie has his own way with impressions, he must know thousands and Gordie’s impressions include perfect facial expressions and bodily movements to match. When you watch Gordie, he becomes your favorite celebrity.

I like the Cabaret Show Lounge because of its intimate atmosphere and the ability to see Gordie as he moves about in the audience.

Gordie opened for Louie Anderson, Randy Travis, The Righteous Brothers, Paul Anka, Rich Little, Barry Manilow and others.

Gordie is an actor, artist, musician, comedian, impressionist, singer and maybe more? This is a show you won’t forget.

Gordie Brown appears Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, at 7 pm, in the Cabaret Show Lounge, at the Planet Hollywood.

Bio: An accomplished musician and composer, and extreme music lover, Gordie Brown’s diverse musical prowess has been an integral part of his career in entertainment. From writing and recording the theme song for the Emmy-Award winning animated series “Life with Louie”, to performing his popular musical parodies on stage, to writing and producing a growing collection of original compositions, Gordie’s music has gained notoriety in every corner of entertainment.

Singled out as a ‘great entertainer’ by Celine Dion, Brown delivers spot on impressions of such notable celebrities and artists as Garth Brooks, Robert De Niro, Elvis, Michael Jackson, Jack Nicholson and many more.  Gordie Brown Live Unplugged combines the best of Las Vegas entertainment into one nonstop high energy show. With comedy, singing and talent beyond compare, Brown’s return to the Strip in an intimate venue will be a must see.

“Thrill to the Pulsating Rhythms of Il Divo’s Music”

December 4th, 2016 • by Sandy Zimmerman

SHOW REVIEW–
By Sandy Zimmerman
(Photos by Il Divo)

The Il Divo World Tour appeared in Las Vegas with all of the pageantry and passion their fans expected. Il Divo performed the dramatic Latin rhythms from their latest seventh album “Amor Pasion”.

The quartet’s resonant voices carried throughout the showroom as they stood together at the top of the grand stairway for the opening their show. With life-size videos behind them, the men walked down the stairs, stopped to sit on the steps and changed the mood. They appeared so casual, so spontaneous in a more relaxed musical set.

Each man has a different personality and style yet together they are dynamite! With such passion in their songs, the men interpreted the music in their own way.

Il Divo’s moving performance created the feeling that tonight was very special! Their warm, personal comments always mean so much to the audience.

Close your eyes as you are transported to Spain while Carlos, Urs, David and Sebastien serenade you. The album’s name “Amor & Pasion” clearly expresses the feelings and emotions of Spain’s fiery music.

Their extraordinary mix of music brings people together to enjoy new interpretations as well as old favorites.

American by nationality, the tenor David Miller (born April 14, 1973) has been a professional opera singer prior Il Divo. He graduated from Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio majoring vocal performance and took a Master in Opera Theater.

The Swiss tenor, Urs Toni Buhler, the long-haired singer, was born in Switzerland on July 19, 1971. He attended Amsterdam Conservatory before trained privately by famous tenors Gosta Winbergh and Christian Papis.

The oldest member, Carlos Marin (born October 13, 1968) is of Spanish ancestry but was born in Germany. With his deep voice, the baritone claimed the trademark as ‘primo baritono’ in loads of operas. His musical education included the lessons from the legendary tenor, Alfredo Kraus.

Providing the ‘pop’ voice in this band is Sebastien Izambard (born March 7, 1973 in Paris), the only self-taught member who has produced and written songs for many French singers.

Il Divo recorded 12 songs spanning a century of traditional tangos, smoldering boleros and classic mambas promise to set the stage for a very different Il Divo tour.

The multi-national four piece have gone on to achieve unparalleled success around the world with 30 million album sales, 50 Number 1 Records, 160 gold and platinum awards in over 33 countries.

Il Divo appeared at the Pearl Showroom, in the Palms Casino & Hotel. http://www.palms.com http://www.ildivo.com http://youtu.be/A6PzZjopg50

SHOW REVIEW: MADONNA’S REBEL HEART TOUR 2015

November 8th, 2015 • by Sandy Zimmerman
MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas
by Sandy Zimmerman
(Photos
by Kevin Mazur for WireImage/Getty)

Madonna’s Rebel Heart concert is the essence of a 21st Century grand production
show, a concert that was created by the world’s best designers, craftsmen and experts in every field. This production is one to savor for its entertainment values and to appreciate for all of the creative efforts and money that make it such a royal event for today’s modern audiences.

The changing imagery and themes keep the show alive challenging the audience with surprises so fast, they cannot look away.
Madonna’s Rebel Heart concert combines a kaleidoscope of vivid colors, videos, dazzling special effects and everything else her experts could add.

The non-stop drama and emotion in each scene tells stories of Samurai warriors, stripper nuns, flappers, Jesus’ Last Supper and more, all in Madonna’s EXPLOSIVE style.

Madonna’s dance numbers are interactive, very personal with mutual touching and double entendre. This is truly Madonna’s show, she provides her vast reservoir of talent to make it all happen!

Madonna’s quick costume changes made me wonder where or when did she have time to switch? Madonna should be complimented on her ability to sing during the show instead of lip-syncing as some other entertainers do.  Her stamina holds during the high-energy dance routines for over 2-1/2 hours.

I have been reviewing Las Vegas shows since the 80’s and vividly remember those
multi-million dollar spectacular production shows. Their heavy walls and enormous sets took time for the stage crew to move.
That was when the specialty acts appeared to fill-in and Siegfried and Roy began at the Tropicana’s “Folies Bergére Show.
Bally’s “Jubilee is one of the few old-style settings today.

With today’s electronic media and computer graphics, we hardly realize when reality begins when the sets change.  The visual experience creates the impression that there is a set yet maybe not.

The audience does not realize all of the back stage influences, all that it takes to put Madonna’s show together.

The set list pulled deeply from this year’s “Rebel Heart” album, opening with “Iconic” and moving through eight more of Madonna’s new tunes, including “HeartBreakCity,” which she performed on a spiral staircase, and “Living for Love,” presented here in a thumping trance remix.

The Rebel Heart Tour will visit 20 cities in North America and 16 cities in Europe and the UK through the end of 2015 with additional concert dates in the US, Australia, New Zealand, and Asia already confirmed for 2016. The Rebel Heart World Tour is produced by Live Nation Global Touring. A full list of tour dates and ticket information is below and can also be found at:

Madonna’s Rebel Heart Tour Crowns her as the Continuing Queen of Pop

November 2nd, 2015 • by Sandy Zimmerman

(Photos by Kevin Mazur for WireImage/Getty)

Madonna has been a woman who followed her own path; she is a rebel herself and   made her own path in life.

Madonna’s Rebel Heart Tour appeared at the MGM Grand Garden Arena with all of the pomp and ceremony of a royal event. This truly was a royal event, crowning Madonna as the continuing Queen of Pop.

Madonna’s fans have been waiting for her Rebel Heart Tour and the spectacular production show won their appreciation with a sold-out tour.

The set list provided a great mix of songs across the years to please all of her fans.

Madonna’s songs included current album Rebel Heart (the No. 1 Dance hits “Living for Love” and “Bitch I’m Madonna,” to classic fan favorites like “Material Girl” and “Holiday” and a “Dress You Up” medley that included “Get Into The Groove,” “Everybody,” and “Lucky Star.”

Even Madonna’s fans were involved with a fan-created artwork video montage during Madonna’s rendition of the song “Rebel Heart.” Her stirring vocal of

“La Vie En Rose” while playing a ukulele drew a standing ovation.

Known for pushing boundaries, Madonna’s fashions also stand-out as her own original creations. Working with both world renowned designers and new designers, the Rebel Heart Tour offers Madonna and Phillips designs, Phillips designs and collaborations with Alessandro Michele for Gucci, Alexander Wang, Fausto Puglisi, Jeremy Scott for Moschino, Nicolas Jebran, Miu Miu, Prada and Swarovski to create the sumptuous costumes.

Alessandro Michele for Gucci: Madonna wears an exotic gypsy outfit comprising a lurex-lace-and-jacquard bodysuit with an embroidered belt, lace short sleeves, and multi-colored trimmings, plus a black crêpe de Chine skirt with embroidered patches and black georgette ruffles.

She also wears a black crêpe de Chine and georgette shawl with embroidered patches and silk fringes, lace gloves with pleated jacquard ruffles. To cap it off, she wears high-heeled knee-high lace-up leather boots and a black hat adorned with silk flowers. Her dancers complement her in patchwork bodysuits with a mix of ruffles and multicolored trimmings and embroidered belts. These are then teamed with multicolored floral headpieces; pleated jacquard neckpieces; lurex shrugs (featuring pleated ruffles on the sleeves and multicolored silk flowers); brocade jackets sporting silk flowers, embroidered patches, and lace pleated ruffles at the bottoms of the sleeves; and lace “Tehuana” inspired capes with multicolored silk flowers.

A full list of tour dates and ticket information is below and can also be found at: www.madonna.com/tour

A Magical Production Show!

Magic with a French Twist

July 24th, 2011 • by admin

(Photos shot by Sandy Zimmerman during the live show except for two as indicated.)

French-born Stephane Vanel brought a different type of magic to the Paris Resort. Stephane’s “The Magic of Paris” show is a perfect match, oh, la, la, as French as they get!

Stephane’s smooth card manipulations were amazing. Some of his classic movements were mixed with new innovations while others were his own creations. Switching from cards to coins and balls, Stephane took slight-of-hand magic to another level.

Stephane’s White Box illusion finale deserves rave reviews. The White Box is small and narrow only big enough for his petite female assistant. Once she enters the box the audience only sees her hands continuously moving. After he keeps making the box smaller and smaller, the audience wonders, “What happened to the girl?” You really have to experience this illusion for yourself.

Even though I was photographing the show near the stage, I couldn’t see how he did it!

Besides making objects or people appear and disappear at will, Stephane’s dancing talents are also demonstrated in his very sensual, hot tango that would probably win on “Dancing with the Stars”.

Although Stephane has appeared in several Las Vegas shows, this is his first time as headliner. His credits include a seven-year run in MGM Grand’s Crazy Horse Paris, as well as appearances in “Crazy Girls” at the Riviera.  In France, Vanel gained fame hosting his own television series “Fun TV Magic” and soon became a worldwide success noted for his charm and magical skills.

But there is more than magic and illusions, you will be happy to see the show is also packed with a variety of acts-

Mark Kornhauser-

comedian Mark Kornhauser’s comedy, puppeteer Anthony Rais and a pair of beautiful female dancers.

Rich Little Brings a Lot of Laughs

May 30th, 2011 • by Sandy Zimmerman

(Photos shot by Sandy Zimmerman during the live show.)

RICH LITTLE- THE KING OF IMPRESSIONS

I have enjoyed reviewing Rich Little’s show beginning in the 80’s and throughout the years to his most recent opening night for “Laugh a Little”, at the Starlight Theater, inside the Riviera Hotel.

A master of impressions, Rich has led the way with his spoofs and good natured satirical sketches.

It’s nothing personal; the impressions are all very funny.

With a little singing and a little dancing, Rich sparks up his new material and old favorites.

And there’s always some new impressions keeping up with the recent news and events.

One shtick that is always funny is his “Political” commentary.

Whenever he is going to “talk politics”, Rich suddenly burst into his special number, “Sing a Little song about Washington” pausing for impressions of Clinton,

President Bush- senior and junior, Carter, Reagan, and Nixon.

Rich understands politicians with an ability to choose the funny side of politics.

He dances around and sometimes marches to the beat of the music.

Interview: Murray Sawchuck-America’s Got Talent semi-finalist,Part#1-

May 29th, 2011 • by Sandy Zimmerman

Murray Sawchuck-America's Got Talent, Semi-finalist

By Sandy Zimmerman

I was happy to see Murray Sawchuck again and followed my GPS directions to his home.

Before entering I asked, “Murray, you perform illusions with tigers and other wild animals, do you keep any wild animals in your home?” I didn’t know what to expect.

Murray laughed, “No, only two Chihuahuas, that’s as dangerous as it gets.

It was a charming home with exceptionally big rooms, high ceilings, and plenty of space for comfort but not for disappearing a train or any of his other grand illusions. Murray’s memorabilia and souvenirs of his trips filled the walls. Upstairs he had a great balcony-style view of the living room. Outside there was a golf tee and garden.

Murray, “I love living here in Las Vegas.  The yard is my yoga, a place for me to relax.

Sandy, “You have a new title as Historical Magic Consultant for the Pawn Stars television program on the History Channel.”

Murray, “People bring items in to be pawned, whenever the Pawn Stars have memorabilia or anything that is magic related they bring it to me. I examine the memorabilia to determine whether the item is real and authenticate it.”

Ricky Martin’s Show was Hot . . . Hot . . . Hot!

May 20th, 2011 • by Sandy Zimmerman

(Photos shot by Sandy Zimmerman during the live show.)

Ricky Martin brought all of the passion of his “Musica + Alma + Sexo” show to Caesars Palace’s Colosseum Theater. From the moment the show opened with a video of Ricky bound in chains struggling to free himself to the frantic beat of his finale, Ricky’s show was Hot . . . Hot . . . Hot!

The excitement built into a frenzy of sensual dancing and pulsating music. With such a high energy performance and seemingly non-stop action, each number became more explicit than the last. They named the show “Musica + Alma + Sexo” (Music, Soul and Sex), a perfect description of what to expect. The stage was “on-fire” with Ricky and his dancers in their daring interpretations of each song.

I enjoyed the uncontrollable, frantic emotion of the dancing combined with Ricky’s raw animal magnetism. His performance touched the audience and I think Ricky will gain many new fans. He really took command of the stage.

It seemed like a simple three tiered metallic scaffold bridge setting divided into nine squares but Ricky can make anything exciting. Ricky and his dancers slid down poles and moved about the squares using them as props for their choreography. Even the shirtless guitarists joined in the dancing while playing.

Paula Poundstone is Different!

May 15th, 2011 • by Sandy Zimmerman

(Photos shot by Sandy Zimmerman during the live show.)

I had a chance to interview comedian Paula Poundstone before

her show and felt she had a refreshing “honesty” about herself.

Paula spoke to me just as she did to the audience at the Suncoast

Hotel.

“My act is autobiographical. I talk about raising three kids and

16 cats.

Just like every other parent, I try to strike that balance.

Fortunately I love my work and I love taking care of my kids so

those are my two favorite things to do which is lucky because

that’s all I ever get to do except for an occasional game of ping

pong.”

Sixteen cats are a lot of cats and a lot of litter boxes!

She complained, “A lot of people say ‘how did you get 16 cats?’

I’ll tell you exactly how I got 16 cats, I had 15 and I got one more.

I swear, I sift litter so much I have a callous on my hand.

I’m a trained professional sifter which is ironic because I never

enjoyed the beach that much.

Sifting is my main job.

Enjoy an Enchanted Evening

May 3rd, 2011 • by Sandy Zimmerman

(Photos shot by Sandy Zimmerman during the live show.)

The Tropicana Hotel’s showroom was filled with the soulful

sounds of seven-time Grammy award winner Gladys Knight.

She sang about love with so much feeling you realize

it came from her heart.

With such intensity of her emotions and an earthiness in her

voice, Gladys’ new show “A Mic and a Light” brought the “real”

Gladys Knight.

Gladys’ warm friendly introduction set the mood,

“Welcome to my house.

I am honored, excited, and all of those things.

We have got things to do and places to go.

Tonight I’m gonna’ take you back where we started.”

That’s exactly what the audience wanted and they showed

their appreciation.

Beginning with a stirring “Midnight Train to Georgia”, Gladys’

musical selections included “You’re the Best thing that ever

happened to me”, “The Way we were”, and many of her classic

hits as well as songs from her new album.

Bubba Knight is featured in the show.

I interviewed Merald Bubba Knight, Gladys’ oldest brother

during the VIP/Media party before the show.

Bubba was excited, “The show’s title “A Mic and a Light” means

just that.

Early days- Gladys Knight and the Pips-

We’ve seen so many of the other performer’s shows with

fireworks, people getting shot from canons and fanfare.

Gladys said, ‘I’m going to eliminate all of that and sing to the people.

It is just going to be me, a light and a mic.

I am going to do what my gift is and just sing.’

The audience loves her songs.

Those songs are invaluable, priceless and she does such an

outstanding job with them.  It is the best of R&B and Soul!

Terry Fator’s Latest Personality

April 28th, 2011 • by Sandy Zimmerman

(Photos: Mirage)

“America’s Got Talent” winner Terry Fator has created a special

personality for each of his character puppets and like “real

people”, the puppets have their own background stories.

Just before Terry brings out each puppet, he provides a peek into

its imaginary life to prepare us for their grand entrance as his

co-stars with special segues when the puppet is ready to be

dramatically carried off the stage.

Terry has the remarkable ability to quickly become each of these

lovable characters as we get to know them better.

With 9 different character puppets, hopefully Terry doesn’t

suddenly wake up at night trying to remember, “Who am I?”

If Terry can keep all of his personalities in order, he has just

added number 10, a new character puppet called Berry Fabulous

to celebrate his second anniversary at the Mirage Resort.

Berry Fabulous is outrageous and seems to rate a special

entrance as he is brought on stage inside a walk-in wardrobe closet.  Terry Fator’s puppets are each very unique.

Backstage with Claire Sinclair-Playboy’s Playmate

March 26th, 2011 • by Sandy Zimmerman

“Backstage with Claire Sinclair”

By Sandy Zimmerman

(Photos shot by Sandy Zimmerman backstage after the show except the poster by Playboy.)

The MGM Grand’s intimate “Crazy Horse Paris” French spectacular revue

has been thrilling Las Vegas audiences since 2001.

When they added Claire Sinclair to the mix, Claire brought her blazing

sensuality blended with a classic beauty. Clair’s performance added a touch

of innocence to her act as she moved around the show’s famous signature Red Lip-shaped “Dali

Couch” and suddenly transformed herself like a firecracker exploding.

It was like a “Dance of Love”!

Claire won Playboy’s 2010 “October Playmate of the Month” and it seemed as though the world

opened up to her.

She made her first solo appearance as guest star in “Crazy Horse Paris”, last October,

again during the year, and is now returning April 20-27.

After the show, I met Claire in the backstage lounge.

Even though Claire was just wearing a long red robe, she really looked great.

Clair spoke about her act, “This was my first time on stage and

I have never danced professionally before in my life, or been on a stage for anything.

It was pretty intense for a first time thing.”

I asked, “How long did you have to train for your solo number?  Clair answered,

“About one-and-a-half weeks.” This was amazing because she had

never taken dance lessons and still had the ability to capture the “feeling” of passion in her

movements on and around the lip-shaped couch.

“The Academy Awards, Las Vegas-Style”

By Sandy Zimmerman

(Sandy Zimmerman shot the photos on the Red Carpet and interviewed the celebrities.)

I was excited about interviewing the celebrities, VIP’s and contributors

along the Red Carpet on Oscar Night in Las Vegas.

Kevin Burke-Defending the Caveman & Fitz of Laughter

Yes, all of the glamor and special moments experienced at the Academy Awards®

as one of 50 parties sanctioned by the Academy of  Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

across the United States.

Around 100 special guests were transported by limousine to the

Palms Hotel’s Red Carpet entrance where they arrived just like stars

at the Academy Awards in California.

The excitement began to build as the public watched them walk the

Red Carpet to the open lounge in the Brenden Theater lobby.

I began my Red Carpet interviews with Travis Cloer,

“Frankie Valli” star of “Jersey Boys” (Palazzo) and his wife Jennifer,

co-star of “Peepshow” (Planet Hollywood) as they were ready to enter

the open celebrity lounge.

Travis had appeared in Jersey Boys” on Broadway for 1-1/2 years then

joined the Las Vegas production for 2-1/2 years. Jersey Boys” is a number one show

and they are not changing anything.

Travis: “We’re staying strong, and we’re staying consistent, giving the crowd what they want.

It is a great show, great music, and we’re happy the way Las Vegas is accepting us.”

Jennifer co-stars in “Peepshow” with Holly Madison. “Peepshow”

Marc Savard-Hypnotist-

was modeled after

nursery rhymes

but not like any

nursery rhymes

we have ever heard.

Jennifer:

“The show is based

on a nursery rhyme

but with a little bit of a sexual twist.”

I had to add, “A little bit” No a lot.

There are some very sexy scenes!”

Watch for Jennifer in the Spider number.

You never know who is coming to these Red Carpet events and here is

Anthony Crivello, the star of “Phantom of the Opera” (Venetian Resort).

He won the Tony Award and others.

I love the sets, the falling chandelier, and everything.

Anthony: “It is a sterling production, a $35 million dollar production

this is our fifth year and going strong.”

DJ Baby Chino

I found the shortest celebrity on the Red Carpet line, DJ Baby Chino,

the World’s Youngest Professional DJ.

He is now eight years old  and has been a DJ since he was five.

I asked, “Where do you work?

Eight years old and he has a job!”

DJ Chino travels around the United States appearing at parties and events.

How did he get involved in this profession?

DJ Chino: “First I did break dancing but wanted to become a DJ because the DJ controls everything.

I DJ, dance and mostly do kid stuff.”

“Under the Spell of the King of Romance”

By Sandy Zimmerman

(Photos shot by Sandy Zimmerman during the live concert.)

Engelbert Humperdinck’s opening night, at the Orleans’ Hotel, was very special marking the

beginning of a new tour to introduce his latest album “Released” on Universal Records.

Romance and love have always been the theme of Engelbert’s shows and

tonight he sang with all of the passion of over four decades in show business.

A man known as the symbol of “love”, Engelbert’s golden voice

thrilled the audience.

His songs still had all the tenderness and emotional fire of the times I reviewed his concerts in the

80’s, 90’s, and continuing up to the present time.

Always satisfying audiences, Engelbert will be celebrating his 75th birthday this year.

As Engelbert said, “I want to take you back in time to bring some songs which made it

possible for me to be here this evening.”

And that is exactly what the enthusiastic audience wanted to hear.

Engelbert was as charming as ever.

You Can Live the Fantasy

“You Can Live the Fantasy!”

By Sandy Zimmerman

It all began in DJ Loczi’s vivid imagination and later became a fantasy

of lights, sounds, animation, special effects, and everything else he

could squeeze into his “Electric Dream” extravaganza.

An incredible

experience

awaits you unlike

anything you

have ever

known.

Let yourself go

and feel the

excitement while

all of your senses

are reeling.

Electric Dream surprises everyone because it is only happening AT

THAT MOMENT and changes according to the whims of the star DJ

Loczi.

Better not look away or you will miss something.

He revs up the dancers with his music then completely changes the

mood.

For the first time, a spectacular production show is appearing in a

night club setting combining all of the thrills of “Electric Dream” with

the romance of dancing.

Some people watch the show while they are dancing, than stop to see

the special effects and continue to dance, while others want to give

their full attention to the show.

DJ Loczi is really an important part of the show.

Watch his face changing with the beat sometimes he seems captivated

caught in an uncontrollable frenzy.

Loczi is ONE with the music.

Like a conductor, Loczi is aware of everything that is happening,

giving cues to the next act, orchestrating all of the pieces that are

involved in this multi-dimensional production.

DJ Loczi explained, “Realistically what I offer and what is very unique

is I might play Aretha Franklin or James Brown, and then an original

track.

Realistically the music is very diverse. We take songs which were

iconic at the original studio 54 and rebuilt, re-mastered, remixed to make them fresh and

relevant for today’s dance floor.

So someone who never experienced that song and never understood

how powerful that song was at the iconic studio 54 in New York are

now hearing it for the first time and realizing WOW this is a really

amazing piece of music.
