“Bruce Merrin Celebrates the Sixth Anniversary of his Sterling Club”

February 18th, 2018 • by Sandy Zimmerman

“Bruce Merrin Celebrates the Sixth Anniversary of his Sterling Club”
(Photos by Sandy Zimmerman)

Bruce Merrin, known nationally for his distinguished career as President/Owner of the Celebrity Speakers & Entertainment Bureau, Inc., marked the sixth anniversary of his Sterling Club (social and business networking) at the Heartland Mansion.

Congratulations to Merrin for six years of bringing all the most prestigious worldwide meeting planners, as well as famous sports stars, entertainers, best-selling authors, newsmakers, politicians and distinguished guest speakers to the Sterling Club each month to assist members.

Merrin explained, “Of course we also book leading business authorities, motivational and inspirational speakers. This month we booked actor William Shatner and Dr. Wayne Dyers for big events in Florida.”

The beautiful Russian songstress Irina Nero headlined Bruce Merrin’s party and I had a chance to interview Irina before her show.

SZ:  “What type of music do you sing?”

IRINA: “I grew up listening to Frank Sinatra and other American singers. American music and movies are popular in Russia, I like soul, gospel and old style music but love jazz a lot.”

SZ: “I liked your personal interpretations and additions to each song during the rehearsal.
How long have you been singing?”

IRINA: “Since before I could walk!”

SZ: “Las Vegas is the best place for you with all of the entertainment here.”

IRINA: “I sing in the Italian American Club, Tuscany, and other beautiful restaurants in Las Vegas. If you want to spend an amazing dinner come to see me on Saturdays at the Mayakovski Russian Restaurant. I will sing for you all the beautiful Russian, American and songs from Armenia and other countries.”

SZ: “You must have a great repertoire!”

IRINA: “When I came to America, I only knew 12 songs, now I sing 70.”

SZ: “You probably know whatever song they want to hear.”

IRINA: “I want to tell my appreciation to Bruce Merrin for the anniversary of his Sterling Club. I wish Bruce good health, great mood, amazing happiness and what else, a huge success. Bruce is doing an amazing job working every day with a lot of energy and gets a lot of results.”

Merrin’s first major PR client was Michael Landon. He explained, “When I booked Michael on the Johnny Carson Show, we were both invited to Johnny’s home in Malibu for dinner. Johnny and Michael gave me the idea to begin my Celebrity Speakers & Entertainment company. They were my first two clients. We have booked every major President of the U.S. since Pres Reagan. We are currently booking the BEYOND THE SECRET presenters from the new movie/DVD for worldwide engagements.”

Murray SawChuck’s Shrunken Head Party”

June 19th, 2017 • by Sandy Zimmerman

Now Murray Has His Own Shrunken Head

By Sandy Zimmerman

Murray SawChuck Celebrity Magician, at the Planet Hollywood, has always been ready to have a party but this one was really different!

The Golden Tiki Bar’s classic south Pacific look is the perfect place to see shrunken heads. They opened the curtain and the Shrunken Head ceremony began with The Baron of the Universe, The Golden Tiki’s managing partner Branden Powers and celebrity magician Murray SawChuck. Brandon opened the box and the shrunken head was presented to Murray.

Murray’s head looked like him complete with his swept-up hair and glasses. Glasses on a shrunken head? Well the Smithsonian artist Terry Barr wanted to be as accurate as possible.

There is really a method for making shrunken heads, not many people know how but being with the Smithsonian Museum, Terry Barr creates those on display at The Golden Tiki Bar.

Murray SawChuck Celebrity Magician (Planet Hollywood) and Douglas "Lefty" Leferovich Magician (Planet Hollywood)

He takes over four weeks with each of these special celebrity heads. There are now seven shrunken heads for you to compare with the “real” celebrities- Murray SawChuck, Vinnie Paul, Marky Ramone of The Ramones, Carrot Top, Frank Marino, Robin Leach and Norm Clarke.

Besides making shrunken heads, The Golden Tiki Bar offers dining and events.

Murray is known as a magician, comedian, actor, host, humanitarian (charity events) and maybe more. His show at the Planet Hollywood offers fun for the whole family.

Murray dubbed himself “The ‘Dennis the Menace’ of Magic,” and his shows often consist of a blend of “comical mishaps” that result in illusions and magic tricks. He was featured in the fifth season of America’s Got Talent, and is the resident magic historian on Pawn Stars. He has also appeared as a magic coach on five episodes of the VH1 series Celebracadabra, and has been a guest star on shows such as Reno 911! Last Comic Standing Celebrity Blind Date, War of the Worlds 2: The Next Wave, Ring of Darkness and on tour worldwide.  For information about Murray SawChuck celebrity magician, see him at the Sin City Theater, Planet Hollywood, 4 pm, SUN, MON, THURS. & SAT. The Golden Tiki is the vision of hospitality veteran Branden Powers, in collaboration with Seth Schorr, Jeff Fine and Joe Cain, The Golden Tiki has spared no expense in recreating the classic mid-century Tiki bar, reminiscent of Don the Beachcomber and Trader Vic’s storied establishments. The cocktail menu features nostalgic classics and new creations, as well as a traditional Martinique TI service and a special treasure chest VIP experience.

PAUL JUMA- Hair Colorist & Extensions Specialist

Before trying a new “look”, make sure it is the right “look” for you. Many hairstyles, hair colors and make-up techniques will not work on everyone.

Paul Juma, hair colorist and certified hair lock stylist and extension specialist, explained, “I use the latest products that help in improving the application of extensions. Now extensions are applied faster and easier. With the latest products, I do not have to apply glue or bonding material on the hair.

First the client’s hair color is matched with the extensions before they are applied. The process is finished with a custom haircut and style.

The hair looks thicker and fuller while it keeps growing.

Compared with the traditional method of applying hair extensions, this method is safer and does not damage the hair. The Hair Locs extensions system is becoming “the favorite” method for any hair.”

As a color specialist, Paul blends the hair colors and combines different shades to become more coppery or more vibrant. The colors are going to stand out.

Another beauty expert, Carolyn Allen, make-up artist, knows the best techniques for all clients. Whether you want to keep in style with wide-open eyes or longer eyelashes, she knows the latest looks.

The “nude look” refers to wearing make-up with natural tones for a healthy glow.  Shimmering metallic eyelids stand out during an evening of dining and nightlife.

When you meet someone, your face is the first thing the person sees. You should try a make-up session or lesson. How can you look good and create the best image? Carolyn studies each client to customize his or her looks.

Ask Carolyn how you can change your beauty regimen with the seasons. Just as you buy different fabrics for your clothes during the summer in contrast to winter other changes should be made.

Juan Mejia, hairstylist and extensions specialist, has an international flair with hair. He is familiar with styles from the United States and Mexico.

Juan suggests a consultation before you make decisions. Discuss the type of hairstyle you prefer, your lifestyle and bring photographs of any style you like.

If you are too busy to spend time on your hairstyle, a quick, short style may be best. For the client who wants a dramatic “look”, Juan is ready with suggestions.

Juan’s extensive repertoire of styles along with his creativity provides the perfect basis for your hairstyle. He even accents his own hair with a distinctive touch of red. Juan has tips for protecting hair during the winter.

Paul Juma, Carolyn Allen and Juan Mejia are at the Cristophe Salon of Beverly Hills in the MGM Hotel. Cristophe is at 3799 Las Vegas Boulevard South, in Las Vegas. For information, call (702)-891-3339.

The Cristophe Salon of Beverly Hills at the MGM Grand Hotel, in Las Vegas, keeps up with the latest products and techniques for their staff.

Hertz Car Rentals is celebrating their 95th Birthday!

By Sandy Zimmerman

(Classic Photos by Hertz Rental Cars)

The story began back in 1918 when 22 year old Walter L. Jacobs opened a car rental company with 12 Model T Fords in Chicago. He repaired and repainted the cars himself.

By 1922 Walter’s yearly revenue totaled $1,000,000 which was considered big money then, maybe not now. His car rental company was sold to John Hertz who was the president of Yellow Cab and Yellow Truck and Coach Manufacturing Company.

Paula Rivera, Hertz Manager of Public Affairs, reminisced, “At that time, owning a car wasn’t a main-stream American thing. If people wanted to get around besides using a bike, bus or train, the only other option was to rent a car. I believe he only charged .10 cents an hour.”  (Continued)

Have Needle, Will Sew!

July 11th, 2011 • by Sandy Zimmerman

(Photos by Sandy Zimmerman)

Sew-lutions makes sewing easy!  Sew-lutions is like solutions but with sewing solutions.  Deborah Miklosko, the owner of Sew-lutions, offers suggestions to help her clients brighten up their accessories, to learn special embroidery techniques, quilting designs, and much more. Create personalized gifts they will always remember or sew 3-Dimensional beaded multiple flower pedals on a jacket or purse.

The ancient art of quilting began in Egypt, continued through the Middle Ages, and was very popular during the time of the early colonial settlers in the United States.

The art of embroidery, or intricate needlework, also has ancient origins. I am always amazed at the beautiful embroidered designs that are displayed in clothing and linen around the world. Some embroidery techniques were adapted from ancient Chinese paintings.

With the bad economy, this is the reasonable way to make your own creations. Your clothes could have the colors, size, and decorations exactly the way you want them.

They offer beginning sewing classes to assist in providing a foundation for learning the basics of how to sew and getting acquainted with the sewing machine.

Enjoy Life at Day Care

July 4th, 2011 • by Sandy Zimmerman

If you work during the day and worry that your parents are alone at home, Nevada Adult Day Care is the answer.

Adults can have a safe environment, a place where they can be entertained and meet people.

Just think of everything that senior residential communities offer, but at Nevada Adult Day Care you can go home at night!

Chris Vito, Nevada Adult Day Care, President & Chief Executive officer, explains, “We strive to stimulate, educate, socialize, and exercise our clients.

A lot of clients were almost stoic because they just sat around their home watching television.

It is a healthy environment when people have the opportunity to meet others of the same age and interact with each other.

There is so much for them to do all day.

We have a special room for card games and bingo to stimulate their minds with mental exercises.

Different activities are  scheduled every hour with alternatives if a client wishes.

Our preventive program includes checking blood pressure, blood sugar and medication management to be certain if the doctor says the medicine should be taken at 9 am and 2 pm that is exactly when our client will receive the medicine.

Each client’s health is monitored daily. With three RN’s, LPN’s, a rehabilitation nurse, licensed occupational speech therapist, and our Director of Nursing, Christina Vito, we are ready for emergencies. Christina previously took care of open heart surgery patients and emergency medicine.

This should give the client’s families peace of mind while they are working during the day.

Restoring Historic Art

“Restoring Ancient Art”

By Sandy Zimmerman

(Photos by Sandy Zimmerman except the Before and After shots.)

Marcin Szymczkowski, the owner of Atelier for Fine Art, is a man who has an unusual profession

restoring and conserving fine art, museum pieces, antiques, sculptures, gold leafing, touch ups,

and frescos.

BEFORE

AFTER

You must have seen these men depicted in films and on television programs in an honored

tradition dating back to early times.

Today they work for private collectors, institutions, auction houses,

and museums to preserve our heritage.

Marcin explained, “You have to like what you do, passion is the most important thing.”

He travels around the world to attend symposiums in order to learn the latest scientific

restoration and preservation techniques.

BEFORE

AFTER

It is exciting work as each day is different.

Marcin seems to like challenges as he restores different types of fine art.

He feels, “The restoration of paper is very important because paper is the first document that

disappears when involved with light.

We still care about paper because electronics will not replace it.”

Marcin emphasized, “The first and most important thing is that we must NOT do anything to do

any more damage.

Second, all of the work MUST be reversible.

These are expensive art pieces and antiques that are centuries and centuries old.

We have to preserve them and make sure there is no damage.

Everything we put on has to be very simple to take off.

For example, if we repair a 19th century oil painting, the first step is always cleaning to determine

the original color.

Sometimes under the old varnish it is dark brown and you can’t see the artist’s signature.

is in 3-4 stages depending upon the condition of the painting.

There’s a Horse for Every Rider

February 13th, 2011 • by admin

“There’s A Horse for Every Rider”

By Sandy Zimmerman

(Photos by Sandy Zimmerman)

I wanted to visit a ranch to get away from the city and I did, but was surprised that this ranch is right

in Las Vegas!

Sitting on just under two acres, the Dream Walker Ranch is not a dude ranch.

The owners, Jenn and Matt Soria, really love their horses.

Jenn feels, “One of the greatest things about horses is that they are so therapeutic.

When you are on your horse and out in nature,

the only thing you think about

is relaxing, all your problems and week stress

seems to go away.

When you come back and put your horse up after a great ride

puts a smile on your face and really puts

things in perspective.

The tough challenges of life are not so bad any more.

This is what it is all about, enjoying life.”

You do not need a psychiatrist!

It is so nice to be able to get away from the city.

I like to go to the mountains, wilderness, desert and places near Las Vegas.

Jenn agreed, “Absolutely, we feel the same way about

riding on the weekends.

Matt and I bring our horses in the trailer along with some friends

and we go up to Mt. Charleston, Lee

Canyon, Kyle Canyon, Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire.

We are so close.

There are some beautiful places to ride, a lot of choices.

We try difficult terrain each week as a test for the horses.

Most of our friends are not experienced riders.

It is a great way for us to get a feel for the horses and interview the riders

to see how they liked them.

This is a great experience

and so much fun to go up

there and ride.

We are very lucky that they are in our backyard.

You are on your horse, one with nature, for a wonderful experience.”

Just like in the old west, they ride around Las Vegas but there are no hitching posts.

Since I don’t know one horse from another, I would want to deal with a ranch that is reputable, one

that we can believe when they say the horse is trained especially if someone has a child the family

does not have to worry.

Jenn feels, “There is a horse for every rider whether you are looking to do things more advanced or for

a family horse.

This way the buyer can be sure the horse is adaptable to trails as well and can cross streets around

stores without having issues.

We try to make the best match possible because ultimately I want them to be happy and the horse to

have a good home.

A Career Instead of a Job

December 25th, 2010 • by Sandy Zimmerman

By Sandy Zimmerman

(Photos by Sandy Zimmerman)

Massage therapy is the career of the Millennium not only in spas, but with

doors opening into the health fields to add more avenues to find jobs.

Now more and more chiropractors, medical doctors, hospitals, and fitness

centers hire massage therapists, in fact, physical therapy offices are

required to have massage therapists on staff.

Of course, cruise ships have always been interested in massage therapists,

for a vacation with pay.

John Teng, Director of the European Massage Therapy School feels, “Many

students seek a massage therapy career because they want to help people.

Just like everything in life, you have to like what you do.

Massage therapy is a very giving career.

If you like helping

people, are good with

your hands,

have a kind heart,

this is probably

a good profession for you.

There is something about a bond between humans when you touch someone

it shows you care.

The massage makes them feel better.

On top of that, you have the techniques to really help your clients

physically, that is the beauty of the massage.

There are so many exciting treatments today, you are learning the latest.

I think it is fun.

You meet all types of people.

If you are a people

person, this is the

career for you.

Even with the bad

economy, people

always have aches

and pains,

they want to feel better and to be healthy.

It is a flexible career.

You can work as much or as little as you want.

Arrange your massage treatments according to your schedule for single

parents, those who have jobs, and if you are attending college.

There is also the possibility of being your own boss.

Massage therapy is not a 9 am- 5 pm job.

Our classes have different times during the day and evening:

Mondays to Thursdays from 9 am-1 pm and 6 to 10 pm.

Massage is not only science but art.

Our instructors teach all of the techniques you need to learn, like a painter

teaches you how to use your brush.

We tell you to create your own style, do what is best for you and for your clients.

John Teng, Director of the European Massage Therapy School

Health Care Your Way

December 2nd, 2010 • by Sandy Zimmerman

Health Care Your Way!

By Sandy Zimmerman

With the high cost of health care and the bad economy, Consumer Direct

Personal Care has the answer.

Laura Coger, Program Manager, explains, “We

specialize in self-directed home care and want people to have home care

their way meaning the days, hours, time, and whatever help is needed to

stay active at home.

When the person is paying privately, we can help with

a wider variety of services, e.g., pet care, playing cards

with dad, companionship, meal prep, assistance with showering and

dressing, transferring in and out of

bed and/or wheelchairs, and all non-medical type of care.

The care plan could be for one hour a day, one-two days a week, or if their

caregiver is a relative or friend who just needs a break.

When a person is in a state program like aging services or Medicade,

they get a care plan which tells what help they are allowed to receive

to stay at home instead of institutional settings.

This is different from

the privately paid

plan.

For example, one

young

girl, 20 years old,

suddenly suffered a stroke and

became fully disabled seven years ago, now she lives in an accessible

apartment and has hired her own care givers.

Being able to stay in their own home and surroundings makes a person feel

good.

A nice friendly person comes in to do whatever is needed.

The folks we talk to have waited so long and are so happy to finally be in

control of their own care.

The traditional way has been to arrange for a care giver to come to

someone’s home without giving the person any choice.

A new care giver shows up to assist them with showering or other personal

help and these folks are on an agency schedule rather than theirs.

We spoke to a lady who had no control over when she took a shower.

That is one of the reasons why she is so happy with our services along with so

many other folks happy

to finally be in control.

With our self-directed

services, you are in

control of hiring, firing,

deciding the times you

want them, etc.

We are a support

system and do the

paperwork, payroll,

and all the rest.

Change your Hair and Change Your Personality

“Change your Hair and

Change Your

Personality”

By Sandy Zimmerman

(Photos by Sandy Zimmerman)

The change makes you feel better,

inside and out.  Our wigs can

change your

personality.  A good fit should

make your eyes, lips, and other

features in your face POP out,

which is what we do during the

fitting.  A wig should take away 10

years easily.”  When I heard a

wig would subtract 10 years from

my face, I decided to buy 2 wigs

to take off 20 years!

Pat feels, “A wig provides the perfect look; it does what you want

your hair to do when it just won’t.

We have long, dramatic hair,

super sexy, short

and

funky styles, the

spiky

look, or others

depending on what you

want we can make it for

you.

You may live a

conservative life but want to become another

person for one night.

Wigs are really

amazing

and definitely will

do that for you.

They

even make you feel

different, it is fun to do.

First we look at the

face, look at the shape, skin color, and tones

than we choose a wig based on that. That is what we do.  If you

have very bright eyes

we select a style that

makes them POP.

With full-figured

women, we want to

have something that

cuts

into their cheeks.  We

want to bring out a

The James Bond Wine Table

May 15th, 2010 • by admin
When you visit Del Friscos, do not miss seeing the most amazing $1.2 million dollar James Bond table. Looking like a normal table at first, Jacque touched her remote control pad and the table suddenly opened to present the James Bond OO7 Films Wine Collection. Eighteen magnums of Cabernet wine from Napa Valley wineries each represent different Bond films. These one- of-a kind bottles are each laser-edged.
