SICHUAN, CHINA MUSICAL PERFORMANCE AT THE ORLEANS HOTEL

October 13th, 2018 • by Sandy Zimmerman

The Boyd Hotel Group brought Chinese New Year’s to Las Vegas in February and NOW the Orleans’ Hotel is featuring the Sichuan Cultural Group on October 18th in their showroom.

All of the pageantry of a classical musical entertainment will be held with the authentic traditional dances, and music of a history of 5,000 years with a cast of over 20 performers. This is the closest you will come to experience the masks, ancient musical instruments, costumes, dances, acrobatics, myths, legends, humor, and excitement without traveling to China!

I visited China 5 times and each province had its own amazing culture, music

and traditions. China preserves the past with these dance troupes as we, here in the US, should preserve our traditions and culture.

They call the Sichuan Province the most diverse culture in China with a history of 5,000 years.

Don’t miss this Sichuan Cultural Dance Group, only one night, Thursday, October 18, at 7:30 pm, tickets from $28 plus taxes and fees. Contact the box office at: 800-745-3000. The Orleans Hotel is located at 4500 W. Tropicana Avenue, near the Las Vegas strip. www.orleanscasino.com

THE MOB MUSEUM’S INTERACTIVE EXHIBITS PROVIDE FUN AND INFORMATION

February 18th, 2018 • by Sandy Zimmerman

By Sandy Zimmerman

(Photos by VOX Communications)

I was invited to The Mob Museum, a museum that specializes in the history and understanding of the impact of 0rganized Crime in the past and present.

One of their new exhibits includes Organized Crime Today, explaining how organized crime has evolved throughout the years. This is a comprehensive multi-faceted study featuring organized crime in depth, a look into the stories, the famous early mobsters dating back to Al Capone, Bugsy Siegel, John Gotti and others, in the days of the speakeasies, mob-run casinos and when the Mafia became involved in crime.

This extensive research data reaches throughout the United States and even around the world. You will see so much here at the Mob Museum, it may be necessary to come back again another day to finish your experience. The museum explains, “From trafficking in exotic species to engaging in cyber-scams, crime syndicates routinely cross both physical and digital borders to execute their elaborate schemes. Using a 17-foot-wide interactive touch wall, discover where organized crime operates today and how law enforcement is fighting back.”

With interactive exhibits, you can enjoy films, displays, photographs, digital experiences, one-of-a-kind mob and law enforcement artifacts, case files and more. They have also added two new experiential spaces which include the Use of Force Training Experience and Crime Lab, which join the Museum’s already robust experiential platform, focusing on methods employed by law enforcement to apprehend and prosecute criminals and their organizations.

Visit the Crime lab and learn how they catch criminals, don’t miss the Basement- Prohibition Era to enter a speakeasy. Crime Lab Experience and Use of Force Training Experience are timed entries. RSVP’s required- Use of Force Training Experience.

You can arrange for groups or parties to enjoy areas of the museum.

Some special areas you should see:

Organized Crime Today: Visit the Organized Crime Today exhibit at The Mob Museum where you’ll see the new face of organized crime

They called it The Beer Wars. It was Chicago, during Prohibition. Well-meaning citizen’s groups had lobbied for law enforcement.

The Mob Museum considers the museum a bold and authentic view of organized crime. They want you to explore the real stories and actual events of Mob history through interactive exhibits and one-of-a-kind Mob and law enforcement artifacts found inside their restored 1933 former courthouse and post office building located 300 Stewart Avenue, Downtown Las Vegas, just minutes from Fremont Street. Parking is limited for a nominal fee. Open: 9 am – 9 pm.

“Bruce Merrin Celebrates the Sixth Anniversary of his Sterling Club”
(Photos by Sandy Zimmerman)

Bruce Merrin, known nationally for his distinguished career as President/Owner of the Celebrity Speakers & Entertainment Bureau, Inc., marked the sixth anniversary of his Sterling Club (social and business networking) at the Heartland Mansion.

Congratulations to Merrin for six years of bringing all the most prestigious worldwide meeting planners, as well as famous sports stars, entertainers, best-selling authors, newsmakers, politicians and distinguished guest speakers to the Sterling Club each month to assist members.

Merrin explained, “Of course we also book leading business authorities, motivational and inspirational speakers. This month we booked actor William Shatner and Dr. Wayne Dyers for big events in Florida.”

The beautiful Russian songstress Irina Nero headlined Bruce Merrin’s party and I had a chance to interview Irina before her show.

SZ:  “What type of music do you sing?”

IRINA: “I grew up listening to Frank Sinatra and other American singers. American music and movies are popular in Russia, I like soul, gospel and old style music but love jazz a lot.”

SZ: “I liked your personal interpretations and additions to each song during the rehearsal.
How long have you been singing?”

IRINA: “Since before I could walk!”

SZ: “Las Vegas is the best place for you with all of the entertainment here.”

IRINA: “I sing in the Italian American Club, Tuscany, and other beautiful restaurants in Las Vegas. If you want to spend an amazing dinner come to see me on Saturdays at the Mayakovski Russian Restaurant. I will sing for you all the beautiful Russian, American and songs from Armenia and other countries.”

SZ: “You must have a great repertoire!”

IRINA: “When I came to America, I only knew 12 songs, now I sing 70.”

SZ: “You probably know whatever song they want to hear.”

IRINA: “I want to tell my appreciation to Bruce Merrin for the anniversary of his Sterling Club. I wish Bruce good health, great mood, amazing happiness and what else, a huge success. Bruce is doing an amazing job working every day with a lot of energy and gets a lot of results.”

Merrin’s first major PR client was Michael Landon. He explained, “When I booked Michael on the Johnny Carson Show, we were both invited to Johnny’s home in Malibu for dinner. Johnny and Michael gave me the idea to begin my Celebrity Speakers & Entertainment company. They were my first two clients. We have booked every major President of the U.S. since Pres Reagan. We are currently booking the BEYOND THE SECRET presenters from the new movie/DVD for worldwide engagements.”

Beauty Secrets of Hair Stylist Jennifer Pollock

October 13th, 2015 • by Sandy Zimmerman

By Sandy Zimmerman

(Photos by Sandy Zimmerman)

Women wish that they can enjoy three days of glamorous hair but that sounds as though it would take too long if this was even possible. Yet Jennifer Pollock, Recharge Salon in the Palms Hotel, prepares ladies’ hair with no muss, no fuss in a fraction of the time you would expect.

Jennifer uses the Seven Brush Blowout, as well as several other little-known techniques for treating hair. Her beauty talents includes hair cuts, color, tape-in extensions, blowouts, baby lights and ombre coloring.

Jennifer felt, “For me, it’s always come really natural to me. I’m passionate about it. My biggest, strongest point is making a client feel good about themselves, I really, truly care about my clients and how they look and feel. It makes me feel like I’ve achieved a bigger thing than just doing their hair.”

Born in Albuquerque, N.M., and raised in Las Vegas, Pollock always knew she wanted to do hair.

The Recharge Salon offers mani-pedis, waxing, makeup application and eyelash extensions while clients relax in an upscale atmosphere with a professional staff

Jennifer explained, “It’s not really all about the services that we’re working with; it’s the inner beauty that we bring out more than anything, Clients are going to walk out of Recharge with a pep in their step.”

Seven-Brush Blowout

The technique of the Seven-Brush Blowout is very similar to the hot-roller technique. Using brushes with fine-texture bristles made with Japanese silk, the hair is blow dried while leaving the brushes in. Once they cool down, they’re taken out, the hair gets a final styling, and the end result is that Victoria’s Secret glamorous look. The second day, the hair has a softer look with loose curls, and the third day the hair has that beachy, relaxed look. “It’s the perfect treatment for a weekend in Vegas,” Pollock said. The blowout uses Davines, an all-natural product line.

The Recharge Salon is inside the Palms Hotel & Casino, located on 432 W. Flamingo Road, near the Las Vegas Strip. For information, call 702-842-6909.

“The Paso Robles Inn’s Steakhouse Offers Healthy Meals”

By Sandy Zimmerman

(Photos by Sandy Zimmerman)

Paso Robles attracts visitors as central California’s wine country getaway. They boast of having over 270 wineries within a 15-mile radius and 400 within 100-miles. Wine tasting is available at many restaurants, cocktail lounges and wineries.

Paso Robles’ charming historic downtown is reminiscent of “small-town America”.  Visit the Paso Robles Inn’s historic buildings and see the murals in the lobby.

Kevin Highland, General Manager/ Food and Beverage Director of the Steakhouse Restaurant, discussed the Paso Robles Inn’s menu.

“Our Santa Maria barbeque consists of a 10-ounce tritip steak, ranch beans, grilled garlic bread and salsa. Santa Maria-style barbeque is a part of the local lifestyle. Since this is an agricultural area, every Saturday the nearby town of Santa Maria offers street barbeque, family style.

Another favorite originating in the Santa Maria valley, the 10-ounce bites of tritip steak appetizer. The cook prepares the steak bites in large cubes skewered on large toothpicks. The steak bites are in the top sirloin family and originated in the Santa Maria valley.

We serve USDA Choice Midwestern beef 100% corn-fed to heighten its tenderness with marbling to intensify the flavor. All beef is aged on the property and hand cut by the chef.

The menu appeals to everyone and includes more than just steaks.

Even our comfort food is different. The chef folds the macaroni and cheese with Australian lobster, truffles and white truffle oil topped with parmesan cheese.

For a fireside breakfast, lunch or dinner, the Paso Robles Inn’s Steakhouse setting is romantic.

Produce grows all year in central California. In the summer and spring, they deliver the produce direct from the fields to the restaurant the same day, every day. Seafood arrives six days a week. That is fresh.

Most of our food is organic or sustainable. We grow our produce on the property. Most of the food is organic with no pesticides. We buy the most natural products from local farms and meat without hormones or steroids.

Reviews: The TOYOTA PRIUS V

November 18th, 2013 • by Sandy Zimmerman

TOYOTA's Radar Cruise Control System

TOYOTA- ELECTRIC MOTOR-

HYBRID SYNERGY-

“Reviewing TOYOTA PRIUS V”

By Sandy Zimmerman

(Photos by Toyota Motors.)

With all the news about Toyota’s hybrid cars, their Prius V (pronounced “vee”) has been an example of the hybrid with the latest safety features, gas savings and low carbon emissions.

A test-drive should be long enough to experience a car’s versatility, safety features and performance under different conditions. The test-drive from Las Vegas to Los Angeles allowed for a combination of highway and city driving.

Driving alone during the six-and-a-half-hour trip, the Lane Assist (LA) was important because it helps prevent accidents. When a driver strays across the marked lanes, the LA sends warning signals. This automatic response system would be most helpful if a driver falls asleep at the wheel or was distracted.

LA uses a camera mounted on the front of the car.

Many of Toyota Prius V’s safety features are integrated to work together. The Lane Assist works with the Radar Cruise Control system (RCC). Once the RCC is activated, a counter-steering force is automatically applied.

The RCC sets the distance between the driver and the car in front to adjust the speed.

These automatic responses automatically adjust the way the car and the driver continue along the road.

It is reassuring to know the car’s safety features are automatic as they work to protect the driver and passengers.

Running out of gas is a problem worring many drivers on trips. Since Toyota invented the hybrid, that is not a problem anymore.

When driving a hybrid, the gas engine continually switches with the electric motor to  keep using the electric mode.

The long highway drive was comfortable thanks to the wide bucket seats.
