Dr. H. L. Greenberg Cares

December 30th, 2010 • by admin

“Dr. Greenberg Cares”

By Sandy Zimmerman

With the Motto, “For a Healthy and More Beautiful Life,” how can

you do better than that?

Dr. H. L. Greenberg, MD & Dermatologist

at Las Vegas Dermatology, feels, “That is what I am trying to

achieve making everybody’s life happy and hopefully more

enjoyable.

If I can help people look better and feel good, they are happier.

Before: Botox

After: Botox

When patients cry in my office saying how happy they are

because their Psoriasis has cleared up,

that their joint pain is gone, and so many other positive things.

It is a great feeling, I love what I do and feel blessed.”

Dr. Greenberg’s specialties include all type of Dermatology from

lasers, surgical, medical, to cosmetic concerns for children and

adults.

Lasers are used to remove blood vessels, brown spots, hair, and

for so many other medical problems today.

Many patients do not like to see their blood vessels showing,

which is a personal choice.

When brown spots suddenly appear due to the sun, or aging

without sun exposure, sometimes the options call for

Cryotherapy- liquid nitrogen treatment.

Dr. Greenberg advises, “Here in the desert the sun damages your

skin.  The more sun exposure the more likely that you would get

skin cancer, wrinkles or other signs of aging.

It is very important that you should be sun smart when you are

outside.

Wear protective clothing and sun screen.

I examine my patients for skin cancer and like to educate them to

watch for the a-b-c-d’s signs of Melanoma.

Look for a change in the appearance of your skin, a new growth or

sore that will not heal.

If it has an irregular border, many colors, or large diameter

then have it checked.

Protection is the key especially with young children.

Japanese Teppan Table

December 26th, 2010 • by Sandy Zimmerman

By Sandy Zimmerman

Sitting at a Japanese Teppanyaki Table is such a totally different experience

from the usual way of dining at other restaurants.

With the Teppan-style, we each have a great close-up view of the chef while

sharing a semi-circular table around the grill.

Most of the guests

are happy talking

to each

other as

they watch the chef

prepare and cook

their food.

This is not only dinner, but dinner and a show, the chef performs a show

using the food at the table.

Sometimes the chef creates a fire show, smoking volcano, igloo, flips a

shrimp up to land on his hat, or other tricks with food.

You can choose a different chef for a new show every time you visit.

The chef took his time preparing more and more and each time serves us

before beginning on the next food.

I ordered the Geisha Special for a taste of everything.

What a dinner!

First the salad was

served, a mixed salad

with a delightful ginger

dressing.

I wanted an appetizer that wasn’t fried and

chose the grilled chicken Yakidori skewered on a stick like a kabob.

The teriyaki-style sauce tasted so delicious, I could have ordered another

one and made it my meal.

A complimentary glass of sake made it seem like a celebration.

The chef prepared rice,

onions, zucchini,

mushrooms,

bean sprouts

and the

entrees.

It was a banquet

of food

and a healthy meal.

The Geisha Special also included lobster, New York steak, and chicken but

substitutes are available.

Other dinners were prepared with only one or two entrees.

When you order any dinner, a second entree can be added

for an additional price.

Suddenly I heard a lot

of noise and saw the

Geisha’s waiters singing to

a happy couple in

the corner table.

They were celebrating a

birthday and received a plate of

Japanese green tea ice cream topped with cherries,

whipped cream and syrup.

A Career Instead of a Job

December 25th, 2010 • by Sandy Zimmerman

Massage therapy is the career of the Millennium not only in spas, but with

doors opening into the health fields to add more avenues to find jobs.

Now more and more chiropractors, medical doctors, hospitals, and fitness

centers hire massage therapists, in fact, physical therapy offices are

required to have massage therapists on staff.

Of course, cruise ships have always been interested in massage therapists,

for a vacation with pay.

John Teng, Director of the European Massage Therapy School feels, “Many

students seek a massage therapy career because they want to help people.

Just like everything in life, you have to like what you do.

Massage therapy is a very giving career.

If you like helping

people, are good with

your hands,

have a kind heart,

this is probably

a good profession for you.

There is something about a bond between humans when you touch someone

it shows you care.

The massage makes them feel better.

On top of that, you have the techniques to really help your clients

physically, that is the beauty of the massage.

There are so many exciting treatments today, you are learning the latest.

I think it is fun.

You meet all types of people.

If you are a people

person, this is the

career for you.

Even with the bad

economy, people

always have aches

and pains,

they want to feel better and to be healthy.

It is a flexible career.

You can work as much or as little as you want.

Arrange your massage treatments according to your schedule for single

parents, those who have jobs, and if you are attending college.

There is also the possibility of being your own boss.

Massage therapy is not a 9 am- 5 pm job.

Our classes have different times during the day and evening:

Mondays to Thursdays from 9 am-1 pm and 6 to 10 pm.

Massage is not only science but art.

Our instructors teach all of the techniques you need to learn, like a painter

teaches you how to use your brush.

We tell you to create your own style, do what is best for you and for your clients.

Do You Want Red or Green Chilies?

December 25th, 2010 • by Sandy Zimmerman

Do you Want Red or Green Chilies?

By Sandy Zimmerman

(Photos by Sandy Zimmerman)

The name Carlitos Burritos is whimsical because it rhymes!

Everything about this restaurant is different.

David Samuels, the owner, explained, “Our cuisine is not Mexican

but New Mexican from the state of New Mexico.

In New Mexico, the food revolves around red and green chilies

grown in the state.

A lot of people have heard of Hatch Green Chile from a village in

the Hatch Valley known as the Chile Capitol of the World.

The red chilies

are a

riper version

of the

green chile

ranging

from WOW,

spicy, to mild.

Depending

upon the

amount of water

used while growing chile,

the less water the hotter it will be.

Red and green chilies are two of the main staples in New Mexican

cooking.

When you dine in a New Mexican restaurant, the server usually

asks, ‘Do you want red or green’, “referring to the chilies.

That’s the official New Mexican state question as well.

Or someone might order Christmas which means mixed red and

green chilies.”

I always thought

people should drink

plenty of water or

beer with their chilies

but David disagrees,

“If you ever eat

something too

spicy do not drink water

that will

make it worse.

Drink milk or eat ice cream to sooth the spice’s effect.”

The restaurant is decorated with chilies hanging from the walls

like a tribute to New Mexico’s chilies.

The New Mexican green chilies are historically said to be an

influence of the early Spanish and Native Americans.

Monday night Sliders, $1 Santa Fe Sliders, from 4-9 pm;

Tuesday nights are “Taco Tuesdays” with their $1 beef tacos

available from 4-9 pm.

They are so popular

David sold 400 tacos in

a few hours last

week.

The price is so

reasonable who

wouldn’t want one?

Wednesday is “Hump Day”, the middle of the week, a time to eat

half price breakfast burritos from their regular price of $3.95

(meat, chicken, shrimp add .25 cents), until 11 am;

Dining for Your Health

Dining for Your Health

By Sandy Zimmerman

(Photos:   Maharishi Ayurveda Health Center)

Food is very important when you are on vacation especially at a

health center.

The Maharishi Ayurveda Health Center coordinates all of the

meals with their guest’s health in mind.

Everything is prepared fresh, never reheated or precooked.

They strive for delicious, healthy organic vegetarian food that

stimulates and satisfies all the senses.

And I really enjoyed the difference!

The tantalizing aromas, the wide variety of selections, and

surprising flavorful tastes made each meal an experience.

Chef Mosa is specially trained in the Ayurvedic- style of cooking.

Usually when we are invited to a cooking class at other

restaurants or hotels, there are just one or two dishes to prepare.

Tonight we

watched

Chef Mosa cook

the entire dinner

for all of the guests

in the health center.

While she was busy cooking, cutting, or mashing all of the

ingredients for each dish,

Chef Mosa discussed her recipes and instructions for preparing

Ayurvedic meals.

She explained, “We believe the food you eat reflects in your

health and our food is part of the treatment.”

Some guests were taking the Ayurvedic program under the

supervision of the Vaidya while others had the option of deciding

for themselves.

Cooking is an art and Chef Mosa creates a healthy menu with just

the right mix of spices that taste good!

Chef Mosa recommended, “We wanted to give our guests the

opportunity to cook this food at their home because it is not

difficult.

You can still have great taste bringing healthy food into your

life!”

Their meals consisted of grains (wheat products), pastas, soup,

nuts (except peanuts), seeds (in small amounts), spices, fruits,

vegetables, legumes, and more.

They do not use onions and garlic but leaks instead.

Some types of cheese are better for digestion and health.

Since cooked food is easier to digest, most of the fruit and

vegetables are cooked in different ways.

The guests took notes about Mosa’s cooking techniques and

received the recipes.

They had previewed the cooking process and finally everyone

walked to the dining room curious about tasting the meal she

had just prepared.

Kim Vo’s Latest Creations

“Kim Vo’s Latest Creations”

By Sandy Zimmerman

(Photos by Sandy Zimmerman)

Is your hair dull and listless?

Known as the “Blonder to the Stars” (Vogue Magazine), beauty

expert Kim Vo, of the Kim Vo Salon in the Mirage Resort,

suggests a luster glaze for color enhancing with UV protection.

It’s the Ultimate Shine!

Kim has just

used his

latest

magic touch on

Sandy

Zimmerman,

hair “Glazification”,

“The shine awakens and brightens your face.

This actually is a glaze we put over the hair to create a patent

leather shine.

Forget color, shine is really the hot thing now.

It is amazing what we have been doing here.”

Kim invented two of the hottest trends right now, the “Hombre

Look” in caramel colors with dark roots fading to light at the tips

and highlights around the face and “American Tailoring”, an

effect with sun kissed highlights.

The “Messed-Up Look” is not the same as the way I look when I

wake up.  Kim explained, “Absolutely, we call that the “Bed Head”,

it’s amazing how much energy, time, and products

it takes to make

your hair look like you just woke up.”

It is very interesting watching some of Kim’s videos at the

entrance to his salon.

He is not only busy making everyone look great, Kim has been

appearing on the Red Carpet interviewing the celebrities at the

MGM’s Country Music Awards, the EMMY’s, and at other Red

Carpets.

Kim arrives early to perform his magic on their hair.

“Some of the celebrities are our clients and others I make

comments about them while I am on the red carpet.

I love doing appearing at the red carpet because it really is so

exciting.”

Kim Vo’s Salon is different from all of the others.

He spends time

blending

the colors

individually

for each client.

“It is all custom

prepared

and really, really

personalized.

That is why my clients come to me because they want the

perfect shade for the perfect skin tone.

We definitely do not just squeeze from a bottle or throw

everything together.

Big news for Kim Vo, he recently signed with Mattel

to be named the Barbie Doll’s Official Hairdresser and make

her into a celebrity.

Pizzichili: The Ultimate Indulgence!

Pizzichili: The Ultimate Indulgence!

By Sandy Zimmerman

In ancient India, the Maharajas were pampered with spectacular

Ayurvedic wellness treatments but don’t be jealous.

Today these wondrous treatments are NOT ONLY for Maharajas,

they are being enjoyed at the Maharishi Ayurveda Health Center,

just one hour from Boston.

Pizzichili, one of their unbelievably comforting treatments, is

known as the Royal Treatment and that is the perfect name for it!

The “Wet table” is similar to a Vichy Treatment but without all of

the showers above you.

The two therapists (Ayurvedic technicians) do it all!

It is the personal attention that makes all of their spa

treatments so different!

The technicians entered the treatment room holding glass

pitchers of a specially prepared blend of warm herbalized oil.

With one technician

on each side, they

slowly poured the oil

simultaneously in

perfect harmony as

though they were one

person.

How could the two be so in tune with each other, their

movements synchronized so well?

After I am practically swimming in a warm bath of oil, the table is

a little slippery as I turn each way to let the technicians reach the

areas of my body.

They also used a hose to apply the warm oil for an entirely

different feeling.

The two women spend so much time with a constant flow of oil

for this 90 minute treatment!

Pizzichili is considered a deep massage although it does not hurt

you.

The technicians do not poke and probe your body.

This is a gentle massage with warm oil penetrating deep inside the

skin to balance the body and rid you of the toxins.

The gentle massage includes “marma points” – similar to the

pressure points in reflexology, acupuncture and acupressure.

Clients choose whether they decide for

themselves which spa treatments they wish or have a

consultation with the Vaidya, an Eastern

Ayurvedic medical practitioner from India, to

recommend a special preparation of warm blended herb oil just

for their medical imbalances.

Health Care Your Way

December 2nd, 2010 • by Sandy Zimmerman

Health Care Your Way!

By Sandy Zimmerman

With the high cost of health care and the bad economy, Consumer Direct

Personal Care has the answer.

Laura Coger, Program Manager, explains, “We

specialize in self-directed home care and want people to have home care

their way meaning the days, hours, time, and whatever help is needed to

stay active at home.

When the person is paying privately, we can help with

a wider variety of services, e.g., pet care, playing cards

with dad, companionship, meal prep, assistance with showering and

dressing, transferring in and out of

bed and/or wheelchairs, and all non-medical type of care.

The care plan could be for one hour a day, one-two days a week, or if their

caregiver is a relative or friend who just needs a break.

When a person is in a state program like aging services or Medicade,

they get a care plan which tells what help they are allowed to receive

to stay at home instead of institutional settings.

This is different from

the privately paid

plan.

For example, one

young

girl, 20 years old,

suddenly suffered a stroke and

became fully disabled seven years ago, now she lives in an accessible

apartment and has hired her own care givers.

Being able to stay in their own home and surroundings makes a person feel

good.

A nice friendly person comes in to do whatever is needed.

The folks we talk to have waited so long and are so happy to finally be in

control of their own care.

The traditional way has been to arrange for a care giver to come to

someone’s home without giving the person any choice.

A new care giver shows up to assist them with showering or other personal

help and these folks are on an agency schedule rather than theirs.

We spoke to a lady who had no control over when she took a shower.

That is one of the reasons why she is so happy with our services along with so

many other folks happy

to finally be in control.

With our self-directed

services, you are in

control of hiring, firing,

deciding the times you

want them, etc.

We are a support

system and do the

paperwork, payroll,

and all the rest.
