A Romantic Mexican Restaurant

“A Romantic Mexican Restaurant”

By Sandy Zimmerman

Most people want a special place to celebrate and enjoy a romantic evening,

but it doesn’t have to be one of the expensive restaurants.

Yes, there is a romantic Mexican restaurant!

You can dine at El Segundo Sol for a great romantic evening and

it doesn’t have to be a birthday, anniversary, or other

special occasion because they make EVERY NIGHT a special occasion.

The restaurant offers a reasonable Mexican culinary adventure.

Executive Chef Terry Lynch explained, “El Segundo Sol is

especially romantic as it feels like a Mexican honeymoon

where you walk off the Mexican beach, through a

grove of trees and into a cool beach side margarita bar!

I think the atmosphere is truly romantic.

It is as though you went through a door and suddenly

you feel you are in Mexico without leaving Las Vegas.

You would not find anything like this on the Las Vegas Boulevard strip.

A lot of our food and drinks are meant to be shared,

a perfect way to spend a romantic evening.”

Guacamole Girl

I love the way the guacamole is prepared.

A special Guacamole Girl mixes it right in front of you.

Tell her exactly how spicy you want it and which ingredients

should be included, then a gigantic bowl –for- two

is brought right to your table.

Chef Terry feels, “This is really a special affair.

The girl is making it just for you at that moment, she will modify

the mixture to make special.

Tableside guacamole is the #1 seller in the restaurant.

You must see the sizzling fajita platter in order to believe it!

Our fajita platter is not the same as any of the other restaurants.

Tableside Sizzling Fajitas Platter

Two fajita platters are placed in front of the couple while

the server makes a presentation of pouring a

special liquid over the platters.

They hear the sizzling as steam dances around the couple.

Just the presentation is a WOW factor.

Other guests are amazed and quickly order the sizzling fajita platters.

Discover the Ultimate Dining chose El Segundo Sol as a Romantic Mexican Restaurant for great Las Vegas dining.

Backstage with Claire Sinclair-Playboy’s Playmate

March 26th, 2011 • by Sandy Zimmerman

“Backstage with Claire Sinclair”

By Sandy Zimmerman

(Photos shot by Sandy Zimmerman backstage after the show except the poster by Playboy.)

The MGM Grand’s intimate “Crazy Horse Paris” French spectacular revue

has been thrilling Las Vegas audiences since 2001.

When they added Claire Sinclair to the mix, Claire brought her blazing

sensuality blended with a classic beauty. Clair’s performance added a touch

of innocence to her act as she moved around the show’s famous signature Red Lip-shaped “Dali

Couch” and suddenly transformed herself like a firecracker exploding.

It was like a “Dance of Love”!

Claire won Playboy’s 2010 “October Playmate of the Month” and it seemed as though the world

opened up to her.

She made her first solo appearance as guest star in “Crazy Horse Paris”, last October,

again during the year, and is now returning April 20-27.

After the show, I met Claire in the backstage lounge.

Even though Claire was just wearing a long red robe, she really looked great.

Clair spoke about her act, “This was my first time on stage and

I have never danced professionally before in my life, or been on a stage for anything.

It was pretty intense for a first time thing.”

I asked, “How long did you have to train for your solo number?  Clair answered,

“About one-and-a-half weeks.” This was amazing because she had

never taken dance lessons and still had the ability to capture the “feeling” of passion in her

movements on and around the lip-shaped couch.

A Hidden Treasure

March 18th, 2011 • by Sandy Zimmerman

“Old-time Supper Club”

By Sandy Zimmerman

(Photos by Sandy Zimmerman

I have always searched for “old-time” supper clubs where you can have fun,

meet friends, and not spend a lot of money.

Well, I found another one!

The Italian American Club of Southern Nevada is a hidden treasure to be enjoyed.

Best of all, the Italian American Club welcomes everyone whether they are Italian or not.

Tony Caterine, the General Manager,

known as “Little” Tony”, explained,

Tony Caterine, Known as Big Ton

“My father, Big Tony, the

Club Consultant,

knew all of the stars

because he was

involved in the

night club

and entertainment

business.

The pictures on the

cocktail lounge wall are all his.

You will see everybody from Little Richard, Bobby Daren, the Coasters, Four Tops, and others.

Today it is all about giving our guests a real experience with the food and atmosphere.

I put my food, sauce, chef, and kitchen-staff against anyone, anywhere, and a majority

of the time I’ll win.

It is not just about food, there are a lot of places you can go and get good food but

here you can enjoy the experience and have a good time.

We have a lot of fun.

The entertainment continues every night!

The Nostalgic Dance Society presents an evening of Dance with Melodious Jones Mondays.

This family band plays everything from Billie Holiday, music of the 20’s to today.

Wednesdays and Fridays- Mike Bari and Jenny Ford sing and entertain on the piano.

Throwback Thursdays brings the Speakeasy Swingers with their Jazz & Swing music.

Open Mic night is more than Karaoke every Saturday.

You will see Shiela almost become Lisa Minnelli, Judy Garland,

and other celebrities with her impressions.

Elvis Impressionist

Choose your fav Elvis song and their look-alike server, Joe will sing it for you.

Executive Chef Joe Friscia joked, “We usually serve an

8-10 ounce portion of salmon on Fridays and only 2 ounces the rest of the week.

I try to simplify my crab cakes recipe in order to keep the true crab flavor and

really taste the sweetness of the crab, not to camouflage the taste.

Some restaurants mix crab with so many things that you do not find much

crab in there but here, you have a lot.

The Hair Artist

“The Hair Artist”

You will feel so fantastic after relaxing in the traditional Turkish co-ed Hammam.

One of the few spas offering the famous domed, mosaic Hammam baths, a beautiful

reminder of the Ottoman’s Baths of Roxelana, built in 1556.

The Turkish bath cleanses and relaxes the body similar to being in a sauna.

Some of the other indulgences are a wet spa, Jacuzzi, cool dip, steam sauna,

and gym awaiting you at the Primp Salon, by Michael Boychuck, inside the Palms Place Hotel.

Arrive early before your treatment in order to take advantage of all of these extras which are

complimentary with any treatment.

Now you are ready for one of Primp’s talented texture experts, Helsi Maya the Hair Artist.

Helsi analyzes your hair first before making decisions.

“We have to determine the hair’s texture and to choose the product and design for your style.

Is the texture medium or coarse?

Sandy Zimmerman- AFTER-

There are ways to control coarse, unmanageable hair, or to add volume to other types of hair,

whatever your hair needs.

Next, I determine the most attractive color for your complexion, eyes, and lifestyle.”

Just like an artist painting a picture, Helsi’s choice of colors is very important.

The Academy Awards, Las Vegas-Style

“The Academy Awards, Las Vegas-Style”

By Sandy Zimmerman

(Sandy Zimmerman shot the photos on the Red Carpet and interviewed the celebrities.)

I was excited about interviewing the celebrities, VIP’s and contributors

along the Red Carpet on Oscar Night in Las Vegas.

Kevin Burke-Defending the Caveman & Fitz of Laughter

Yes, all of the glamor and special moments experienced at the Academy Awards®

as one of 50 parties sanctioned by the Academy of  Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

across the United States.

Around 100 special guests were transported by limousine to the

Palms Hotel’s Red Carpet entrance where they arrived just like stars

at the Academy Awards in California.

The excitement began to build as the public watched them walk the

Red Carpet to the open lounge in the Brenden Theater lobby.

I began my Red Carpet interviews with Travis Cloer,

“Frankie Valli” star of “Jersey Boys” (Palazzo) and his wife Jennifer,

co-star of “Peepshow” (Planet Hollywood) as they were ready to enter

the open celebrity lounge.

Travis had appeared in Jersey Boys” on Broadway for 1-1/2 years then

joined the Las Vegas production for 2-1/2 years. Jersey Boys” is a number one show

and they are not changing anything.

Travis: “We’re staying strong, and we’re staying consistent, giving the crowd what they want.

It is a great show, great music, and we’re happy the way Las Vegas is accepting us.”

Jennifer co-stars in “Peepshow” with Holly Madison. “Peepshow”

Marc Savard-Hypnotist-

was modeled after

nursery rhymes

but not like any

nursery rhymes

we have ever heard.

Jennifer:

“The show is based

on a nursery rhyme

but with a little bit of a sexual twist.”

I had to add, “A little bit” No a lot.

There are some very sexy scenes!”

Watch for Jennifer in the Spider number.

You never know who is coming to these Red Carpet events and here is

Anthony Crivello, the star of “Phantom of the Opera” (Venetian Resort).

He won the Tony Award and others.

I love the sets, the falling chandelier, and everything.

Anthony: “It is a sterling production, a $35 million dollar production

this is our fifth year and going strong.”

DJ Baby Chino

I found the shortest celebrity on the Red Carpet line, DJ Baby Chino,

the World’s Youngest Professional DJ.

He is now eight years old  and has been a DJ since he was five.

I asked, “Where do you work?

Eight years old and he has a job!”

DJ Chino travels around the United States appearing at parties and events.

How did he get involved in this profession?

DJ Chino: “First I did break dancing but wanted to become a DJ because the DJ controls everything.

I DJ, dance and mostly do kid stuff.”

Restoring Historic Art

March 1st, 2011 • by Sandy Zimmerman

“Restoring Ancient Art”

By Sandy Zimmerman

(Photos by Sandy Zimmerman except the Before and After shots.)

Marcin Szymczkowski, the owner of Atelier for Fine Art, is a man who has an unusual profession

restoring and conserving fine art, museum pieces, antiques, sculptures, gold leafing, touch ups,

and frescos.

BEFORE

AFTER

You must have seen these men depicted in films and on television programs in an honored

tradition dating back to early times.

Today they work for private collectors, institutions, auction houses,

and museums to preserve our heritage.

Marcin explained, “You have to like what you do, passion is the most important thing.”

He travels around the world to attend symposiums in order to learn the latest scientific

restoration and preservation techniques.

BEFORE

AFTER

It is exciting work as each day is different.

Marcin seems to like challenges as he restores different types of fine art.

He feels, “The restoration of paper is very important because paper is the first document that

disappears when involved with light.

We still care about paper because electronics will not replace it.”

Marcin emphasized, “The first and most important thing is that we must NOT do anything to do

any more damage.

Second, all of the work MUST be reversible.

These are expensive art pieces and antiques that are centuries and centuries old.

We have to preserve them and make sure there is no damage.

Everything we put on has to be very simple to take off.

For example, if we repair a 19th century oil painting, the first step is always cleaning to determine

the original color.

Sometimes under the old varnish it is dark brown and you can’t see the artist’s signature.

is in 3-4 stages depending upon the condition of the painting.

When you visit Del Friscos, do not miss seeing the most amazing $1.2 million dollar James Bond table. Looking like a normal table at first, Jacque touched her remote control pad and the table suddenly opened to present the James Bond OO7 Films Wine Collection. Eighteen magnums of Cabernet wine from Napa Valley wineries each represent different Bond films. These one- of-a kind bottles are each laser-edged.
