The Greeks Invite You to their Food Festival!

September 21st, 2019 • by Sandy Zimmerman

Come to the annual Las Vegas Greek Food Festival, 3 exciting days and nights, Friday, Sept. 27, Saturday, Sept. 28th. and Sunday, Sept. 29.  A family oriented fun event located and sponsored by St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, 5300 South El Camino Road, Las Vegas. Music and dancing, Greek cuisine, Greek Folk dance performances, Greek pastries, kid’s fun zone and tour their magnificent Byzantine Church.

The Gyro Booth features traditional gyro meat sliced and served on pita bread with diced onions, tomatoes, and topped with our very own special Tzatziki (yogurt and cucumber) sauce.

The Las Vegas Greek Food Festival brings all the aromas, sounds, tastes, and traditions of Greece to your doorstep. Your admission ticket becomes your passport.

One of the biggest thrills is to join their dancing in the round, just try to follow their steps but it’s okay, just have fun! This festival has so much to offer!

I remember in the 80’s attending their Greek Food Festival every year as were earning money to build their church. This is an excellent cause and fun!!

“Enjoy an Unforgettable Evening Dining & Dancing Under the Stars” By Sandy Zimmerman

September 17th, 2019 • by Sandy Zimmerman

SID THE KID, STAR OF THE “SAX UNDER THE STARS” EVENT!

I was invited to review “Sax under the Stars”, a spectacular event at Club 172, (Rio All-Suites Hotel) that transports you back into the era of early Las Vegas, the time of Fred Astaire, the time when women wore evening gowns while men donned their top hats, ties and tuxedos. This elegant atmosphere is paired with gourmet upscale cuisine designed to thrill your taste buds.

When I came to Las Vegas in the 80’s, we had supper clubs, live music, dancing, no cover or minimum lounge acts, and socials but not now.

Sharen Black, “Sax under the Stars” Producer”, wants to bring back the big band sound with the well-known saxophonist “Sid the Kid” and a 9 piece band. Sharen commented, “We have jazz, Glenn Miller songs like “In the Mood” and also some special ballroom dancers here tonight.”

Sharen Black, Producer of the “Sax Under The Stars” event during Sandy Zimmerman’s interview.

“Sax under the Stars” is a BI-MONTHLY charity event with dining and dancing at the Club 172 (Rio All-Suites Hotel), today’s version of the supper clubs of the past. Club 172 is unique as one of the few if not the only place with a retractable roof where you enjoy the added pleasure of dining and dancing under the stars! How romantic!

Sharon feels the need to assist 4th grade students in learning how to succeed for their future. The chosen Fourth Grade Cotillion students will have five weeks of training in etiquette and ballroom dancing and then will “show off” what they have learned at a Dinner/Dance on November 9 at the Club 172 at the Rio Hotel and Casino. There will be no cost to the students and all students will be given tuxedos and party dresses to wear to the event. Instructors will be dance professionals from the Las Vegas community and instructors who have conducted Cotillions from Kansas City and Las Vegas.

A portion of ticket proceeds will benefit the Fourth Grade Cotillion, a five-part class benefitting 50 Fourth Grade students by teaching etiquette, good manners, common courtesy, and commitment to gracious behavior. In addition, ballroom dancing will be taught by professional instructors from dance studios in Las Vegas.

Sax Under the Stars continues every 2nd Saturday until December. Formal length dresses, white tie & tails preferred. Tickets are available online for $120 per person, and at the door for $140. Limited seating available; to book your reservation, call 702-514-0488 or visit saxunderthestars.com. *Vegan dinner options available.

“Review: Bob Anderson Performed at South Point Hotel Las Vegas” BY Sandy Zimmerman

September 9th, 2019 • by Sandy Zimmerman

Tonight, at the South Point, was very special because Bob Anderson rekindled the past not as his present unforgettable impression of Frank Sinatra in “Frank, The Man, The Music” but as himself when he began singing tributes to many of the famous stars. This was the songbook which made him famous as the “First Singing Impressionist”.

Bob Anderson sang a wide variety of songs, all of these in one evening- “I Only Have Eyes for You”, “Once in a Lifetime”, “Learning the Blues”, “Rules of the Road”, “Don’t Go Away Mad”, “It’s Impossible”, “Mac the Knife” and “San Francisco”, “Moon River”, “Room Without Windows”, “Everybody Loves Somebody Some Time”, “What Kind of Fool am I?”, “Come Back to Me”, “Don’t Get Around much Anymore”, “I am a Singer”, “Saturday Blues”, “Never Going to Fall in Love Again”, “Just Say It’s

Me That You Adore”, “The Laughs on Me”, “Green Grass of Home”, and more numbers.

The audience enjoys more than just the songs of the past, Bob personalized each song by
reflecting on his own life intertwined with stories about the stars matched with singing their music.

Those who were there in the audience at the Palazzo for “Frank, The Man, The Music” or South Point can see why Bob Anderson is so successful. He strives for perfection! You’ll immediately say that’s Sammy Davis, Jr., Andy Williams, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones, or whoever the star, they are recognizable. www.bobanderson.com

ANNOUNCING: Bob Anderson mentioned that his “Frank, The Man, The Music” production show will be appearing on Broadway next year and is also planning a world tour.

BIO

In 1973, he snuck into the Sahara’s Congo Room to watch a Nancy Sinatra rehearsal. During that rehearsal, Nancy’s opening act, the Everly Brothers, got into an argument and walked out. Enter 23-year-old Bob Anderson. He told the musical conductor that he was a singer, so with only a few hours until the start of the show and no opening act, Nancy Sinatra’s producer handed Anderson a mic and let him prove himself. He did. Anderson went on in place of the Everly Brothers that night and played the entire two-week engagement at the Sahara. Shortly after that engagement, Anderson accompanied Nancy Sinatra to The Merv Griffin Show.

““Blanc de Blanc’s” Flamboyant Opening at the Sahara Hotel” By Sandy Zimmerman

September 7th, 2019 • by Sandy Zimmerman

Scott Maidment, Creator/Director of “Blanc de Blanc”- at red carpet opening during Sandy Zimmerman’s interview.

(Photos by Sandy Zimmerman)

Most Las Vegas shows celebrate their openings with red carpets but the “Blanc de Blanc” show is different. They cleverly designed 3 settings- a lounging couch surrounded by balloons and signs, another with neon lights and balloons, and a third mega-billboard with a video! That reminded me of the Las Vegas’ Pizazz I experienced as a show reviewer in the ‘80’s and ’90’s.

Illusionist David Goldrake, star of IMAGINARIUM, TROPICANA, is being interviewed by Sandy Zimmerman at Blanc de Blanc’s opening red carpet.

I interviewed many celebrities as they filled “Blanc de Blanc’s” lobby.

Scott Maidment-“Blanc de Blanc” show Creator and Director-SAHARA:

SZ: “That’s so important to create the concept of a new show with so many pieces to put together. Is “Blanc de Blanc” a big show?”

Scott Maidment: “We have been doing the show for three years with a two hour version and filed it down to a smaller version so the show is even more exciting, punchier than it’s ever been.

We sold out in Australia, London, and New Zealand and are very happy to be here at the launch of “Blanc de Blanc” at the Sahara.”

SZ: “What does “Blanc de Blanc” mean?”

Scott Maidment: “It’s a type of champagne, a white grape drink. It’s fun, I like the sound, the name sounds like champagne corks are popping! Have a good time at the party!”

SZ: “From the photos I saw, your show looks like it’s going to be a party.”

Scott Maidment: “It is more of a party than a show. The audience are invited to kind of come on the journey with us, party, and get involved as well.

We are looking forward to seeing how much Las Vegas loves “Blanc de Blanc”. The rest of the world has loved it so we’re ready to come before you in Vegas.”

David Goldrake-Illusionist “IMAGINARIUM” Tropicana:

SZ: “I interviewed you in your dressing room at the closing of your successful “IMAGINARIUM” and happy to see you back in action on the red carpet again.”

David Goldrake: “We have been traveling all over the world having a lot of fun performing my bigger show and my smaller shows since the closing.

SZ: “You are producing a new show, will it be all new or have parts of your previous show?”

David Goldrake: “We are going to have some parts of the old show but some new material, new people, and a new cast. I’m very excited about that.”

SZ: “Your first show, “Imaginarium” was so good! Similar to our production shows I reviewed in the 80’s and 90’s.”

David Goldrake: “I am happy to have started my Las Vegas career at the Tropicana and now we are ready for new adventures.”

SZ: “Have you heard about “Blanc de Blanc”?”

David Goldrake: “It is exciting to see “Blanc de Blanc” because it is such a unique show, very different and am wishing them a lot of success and a very long run.”

Blanc de Blanc shows appear at 7 pm, Thursday to Monday, in the BLANC de BLANC Theater, from August 16-December 30, 2019.

The James Bond Wine Table

May 15th, 2010 • by admin
When you visit Del Friscos, do not miss seeing the most amazing $1.2 million dollar James Bond table. Looking like a normal table at first, Jacque touched her remote control pad and the table suddenly opened to present the James Bond OO7 Films Wine Collection. Eighteen magnums of Cabernet wine from Napa Valley wineries each represent different Bond films. These one- of-a kind bottles are each laser-edged.
