“The Ayurveda Way of Life”

By Sandy Zimmerman

Lothar Pirc, the President of the Maharishi Ayurveda Health Center in Lancaster, Massachusetts,

and Managing Director at the Maharishi Ayurveda Health Center in Bad Ems, Germany, and his wife

Dr. Karin Pirc, MD, PhD, and Eastern physician, is the Medical Advisor at Lancaster and Medical

Director at their Germany location.

Lothar is a man dedicated to awakening the public to natural Ayurvedac health care.

He travels around the world speaking to heads of government, national health organizations,

business leaders, and physicians groups.

I was happy to have the opportunity to meet Lothar and Karin during my visit to their

Lancaster Ayurveda Health Center.

Lothar described the difference between Eastern and Western medical treatment.

“In the United States, medical doctors are in and out of the examination room for an average

of seven minutes with each patient while eastern physicians, called Vaidyas, spend from one

hour to one-in-a-half hours with each patient during the initial consultation.

In fact, the Vaidya sees the guests every day to monitor the spa treatments and tailor

individual recommendations for their diet and even the ingredients in the massage oils which

would be used.

There are 20 different types of massages and 50 different kinds of oils from India.

One person spends time just preparing all of the massage oils in the Oil Kitchen.”

The Ayurvedac Wet Treatments are very different from the ones we are usually experience in the

United States, like the Vichy Shower.

Lothar explained, “The Pizhichill treatment, also called the Royal Treatment, combines

synchronizing massage with a hot treatment.

Two technicians (therapists) pour two gallons of sesame oil over the client’s entire body.

This treatment is good for back problems, the joints, and is effective for detoxification.

Before the treatment, the oil was clear with a golden color but after the oil changed to a dark brown

color.

A study indicated that the oil held high concentrations of environmental toxins that were flushed

out of the client’s system. In our Lancaster and Germany health centers, we emphasize the

Panchakarma treatment for detoxification.

There were two kinds of toxins, the water soluble toxins are easy to get rid of by practicing sports,

drinking or fasting.

Then we have the fat soluble toxins stored in the fat tissues- the pesticides, herbicides and heavy

metals which usually stay in the body for 50 years.

It takes 25 years to remove half of these toxins out

of the system, but after the Panchakarma

Treatment an amazing 50% of the toxins were

reduced in only 12 days.

Some toxins are associated with allergies, heart

problems and other diseases."

Lothar has over 30 years experience with Ayurveda,

"One of the unique practices in Ayurvedac

medicine is the Pulse Diagnosis, using three

fingertips, instead of the usual two, to take the pulse.

The fingertip's nerve endings are just like a map to

your body, they are very, very sensitive

depending on how deep you press and how you

combine the fingers in order to check the whole

physiology of the person.

There are three metabolic systems in Ayurveda-

Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

Vata is connected to communication and movement,

while Pitta refers to digestion and

Kapha structure.

Imbalances cause disease to develop in six stages,

when the disease has not manifested in the early

stages then it is easier to change.

With a little healthy diet, going to bed early, and in

some cases breathing exercises the imbalances

can be prevented."

A balanced mind and body recharges your batteries.

People should take health in their own hands and do

something natural.
